Vicente Ares Feijoo

Native of O Riós (Ourense), the land of the chestnut. He holds a degree in Galician-Portuguese Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has completed his PhD at the Department of Linguistics of the Faculty of Philology. He is currently working on a doctoral thesis on Os nomes dos penedos en Galicia: motivacións, cultos, ritos e lendas.

He has been working on Galician toponymy for 22 years. He was one of the coordinators of the now defunct Proxecto Toponimia de Galicia (PTG 2000-2011) and is currently the coordinator of the RAG’s Technical Toponymy Unit, as well as technical coordinator of the collaborative project Galicia Nomeada, creator of the Toponimízate dissemination campaign and advisor to the micro-documentaries Os nomes da nosa terra

He is a member of the Onomastics Seminar of the RAG, of the Toponymy Commission of the Xunta de Galicia, of the Galician Onomastics Association and of the Specialised Commission of Geographical Names (National Geographical Institute – Ministry of Development).
